Desktop apps for macOS and Windows that keep working offline

When a cash desk, warehouse or office needs software installed on the computer, we build a desktop app for macOS and Windows. It works without internet and updates itself.

A browser-based system is convenient in many cases, but some jobs are better served by software installed on the computer: the internet can drop at a point of sale, a cashier needs to work fast in a single window, and printers and other devices need a direct connection. A desktop app is made for exactly these cases: it starts quickly, stores data locally and exchanges it with the main system on the server.

We build desktop apps with Tauri and Neutralino: they are lightweight, take little disk space and are written with web technologies (React, TypeScript), so the interface can be shared with the web panel. Auto-update is built in: when a new version is released, the app updates itself on staff computers, and nobody has to visit each machine to reinstall it.

The macOS app for a roofing materials store’s ERP updates itself automatically. The desktop app built for an auto parts store keeps selling when the internet is down and syncs data with the server afterwards. In a system built for a delivery service, the admin panel also runs as a Windows app. In every project, the desktop app is built as part of the overall system rather than as a separate island.

Questions

  • How much does a desktop app cost?

The price depends on what the app does, which devices it connects to and the server side. Leave a request — we will clarify the task and give you the price and timeline.

  • Why a desktop app instead of a web system?

If you need offline work, direct printer and device connections or a work window that is always open, a desktop app is more convenient. In other cases a web panel may be enough, and we decide this together.

  • How does the app get updated?

Auto-update is set up: when a new version is released, the app downloads it by itself. There is no need to reinstall it on every computer.

  • Will data be lost without internet?

No. Data is saved on the computer and sent to the server when the connection returns.
